I'm new to this forum and my wife's 2003 sportrac has developed a problem. The left rear turn signal\brake light will not work. The tail light does. When you turn on the left turn signal the front bulb and the dash light flashes real fast. I have changed both, the front and rear bulbs with no luck. I've read on here about the tilt steering column deal. I have moved the steering column while operating the turn signal with no change. Any suggestions???
Welcome to the forum! If the problem were in the steering column I would not expect the front turn signal to work either.
I'd suggest you start by confirming whether or not you have voltage to the bulb socket for the turn signal. I'd suggest doing this using a test light to load the circuit. If possible, connect the test light ground lead to the ground for the bulb.
Has someone by chance wired in a trailer light connector and spliced in to the wires rather than using the pre-wired connector?
Even if the trailer harness was a factory install, I would still check that too. It's a likely place for a break in the connection or somewhere in that harness, especially since it usually isn't tied down as well as the rest of the wiring. If the rear turn signal doesn't work, I wouldn't expect it to work for the trailer either. If you have a trailer, plug it in and give it a test. If not, you can get a tester, or just use a volt-meter to test.
