Remote start 1997 Expy

I want to add a remote start to my 1997 Eddie Bauer Expedition. I would like to use an add-on one that will just plug up with my existing keyless entry module if possible.

Any suggestions one?

IMO, abandon the OEM keyless entry and drop the $80 to get yourself a 2-way LCD remote start, keyless entry, alarm unit. The three biggest advantages are the ability to be notified if your alarm is going off and that the remote start signal was actually received, a more than significant increase in range from the remote, and everything is handled by one remote.

Proving that you have an alarm to your insurance company doesn't hurt either. In fact most will give a small discount on your insurance for having an alarm.

Any suggestions? I have looked at a few from Clifford and Viper but they are over $300 + installation.

I've installed a 1/2 dozen of these: Car Alarm System w/Remote Engine Start 2 Way LCD Pagers | eBay

You will also need one of these bypass modules (and 2 ignition keys) in order to bypass the PATS theft system in the vehicle.: DEI 555S Securilock Ford Anti Theft Bypass BNIB | eBay

Lastly, you will need either a push or magnetic switch for the hood open safety wire.

Like this: CAR ALARM UNIVERSAL HOOD TRUNK DOOR PIN SWITCH DEI | eBay

Or this: Surface Mounting Magnetic Switches ABS Housing White 6A | eBay
