I have one that was installed by viper. It will do a remote start and and when I shut it down it has a timer that will let it run for a minute for turbo cool down.
There are quite a few threads regarding this. Ford Factory Remote Start comes in 3 different packages (Gold, Silver, Bronze) as well as aftermarket kits. Gold has remote start, alarm, keyless entry. Silver has remote start, alarm. Bronze has remote start, keyless entry (something like that). You will need to check if your truck has the PATS key and make decisions on which to go with (factory vs. aftermarket). I have the Gold package and wired the SEIC to one of the 2 aux. outputs so I can idle up while it's remotely running.
Yes, the will. One of the better ones is Astro-Start. Some cool features it has is a cool down timer that runs the truck for a few minutes after turning off the ignition allowing the turbo to cool down (great for those that live in the souther climate) and also has a temperature sensor built in that when it detects a preset temp will start the truck up allowing it to warm up for a period of time, then automically shut down. It'll repeat this until the air temp stays above the selected 'low temp' or the owner manually stops it. (this feature is great for those of use in the northern climates that regulary see below zero temps and have trucks that sit for long periods of time with-out the benefit of being able to plug in our vehicles).
I had one on my '04 powerstroke and loved it. I just haven't gotten around to installing one on my '06 yet. But after the past couple of moonths and my truck having to sit for weeks on end and seeing day temps around 0 to 10 below (average) and night temps getting to 25 below, I kinda would like to have one.
The only downside to the start when it's cold feature is that if you use it like I would (remote worker on a 2/2 schedule, you'ld wanna make darn sure when you park your truck that you have a FULL tank of fuel. Nothing would be worse than running your truck out of fuel while it ideled.
Just picked mine up yesterday. Its a Scytek 5000. $399 installed @ Sunrise Ford in Fontana. www.scktek.net
The only issue I have so far is the alarm goes off after the truck shuts off on the turbo timer. The delay is set at 2 minutes and is activate by depressing the eBrake. Take the keys out, lock the doors and the truck runs two minutes. The problem is the diesel shutters when turn off. I guess that is enough to set the alarm off.
Well I guess I'm one of the few that doesen't. NYE (now Kendall) tried to sell me one when I bought my truck, but I didn't want to finance a few hundred dollars for about 6 years.
Been working so much lately, I may just use a lil bit of my "bank" and get one this coming week....that is if I can ever get out of Beluga......darn snow is socking this place in and Merrill field in Anchorage is getting snow also.
There's a few snow machiners getting ready to head for Wasilla...they have a freight sled with them.......hmmmm maybe............
