Straight thru and just up a bit, should give you plenty of cable. Runs right alongside the inner fenderwell and there is a hole in the core support for the cable to feed thru to the latch. Was this original or are you addidng it?
Is it just a little short, or a lot?
The Econolines used a similar latch assy., the only difference is the cable is significantly shorter on the Econoline version.
The one on my truck runs right through the firewall on the driver side right under where all the wiring passes through, then straight up to the core support, and over. it has it's own grommet
It's the one just about dead center in the pic, to the right of the big one:

I am adding it to my truck.
It was removed from the black truck pictured, but that truck has been gone for so long I dont remember where it was routed.
I have seen trucks at shows but couldnt really tell where it was routed.
The problem with hood locks is if you ever have a engine compartment fire that cable is one of the first things to go. Then you can't get the hood up to fight the fire.
^^ the cable is routed far enough from the engine to give you a little time. I plan on rerouting mine under the inner fender so it is out of site, that should add even more fire protection.
Here is the core support, nothing special about how it's routed. I took my front end apart yesterday, but you can still get the idea.
