My 87 Super Cab 4x4, 2.9 is making a growling noise coming from the fuel tank. The strange thing is that it continues for a few seconds after the ignition is off. I was thinking the fuel pump in the tank, it kind of sounds like the sound a worn bearing would make as it badly cavitates? But it seems weird to me that it would contiue after the pump power is off.
If I cycle the pump with the key, it still does it after the pump turns off? Doesn't seem like a fuel pump would run on after the power is off, as it would have resistance and stop immediately??
Anyone with thoughts on this.
Oh yeah, till now (and at present) I don't seem to have a fuel delivery problem.
You may want to do an Advanced Search under the Search tool to see if you can find similar symptoms. I did a quick search and used "fuel pump" + noise and got hundreds of hits. If you can refine the search, you might find what you are looking for.
Thanks to both of you, I will search, but have bought a pump to put in saturday. Its the pump only, so if it doesn't match up tho the pump that's in there I will need to buy the complete unit with gauge sender attached. Guess ill know better saturday afternoon.
