I would definitely replace the gears, especially if they are the stock fiber ones. Not too hard to do, p/s pump, a/c compressor (if you have one) and crank pulley have to come off. Removeing the radiator makes it easier.
There is the possibility that, if they are fiber gears, you may have to pull the cam out. This is simple because the material can break when you put the stress of pulling on it, leaving you with nothing to grip. Personally, I use steel gears only. I hate the thought of having a fiber one come apart. Just ask chas1234 about that.
(edit)- Steel gears generally run $35-40, while the fiber ones are usually $50+. Check the online store here, they may have them available.
If you're going to pull the timing gears be sure to remove the bolts on the plate behind the cam gear that keeps the cam from walking and the us that plate to pull the gear i.e. don't put the jaws of the puller on the fiber gear but rather the steel plate behind it and you should have no problem.
I put in steel gears when I rebuilt. One thing I did notice was a kind of soft "blower whine" sound afterwards which (I think) is part of why the synthetics are an option - they're quieter. I got used to the sound (20k & no problems). It hasn't scared anybody else yet...in fact most of the other guys can't even hear it.
Tetra, IIRC, both use bolts that also hold the timing cover in place, and the brackets get in the way of removing the cover.
I have steel gears on my truck, and they make some noise. Actually, tooling down the road, you hear the gears more than the exhaust. Kinda cool when I drive around in 4-low (with the hubs unlocked), all the gear noise sounds like a massive blower.

'Glad I'm not the only one hearing that sound. I'll have to admit, it had me a bit worried - early on.
