transmission problem

i have a 91 bronco 5.7L and the other day a problem showed up. as i was coming up to a stop sign the bronco didn't downshift all the way into first gear, it stayed in a higher gear and stalled. i put it into park and started it back up and it ran fine until the next time i slowed down when it did it again....the transmission was rebuilt by a ford dealership and has maybe 1500 miles on it. i did add about 1/2 qrt of fluid to it but didn't seem to make a difference at the time. drove it today and it did fine. any ideas?

Staying in a higher gear won't make it stall. The torque converter not unlocking when it should will make it stall.

There are several potential causes: Low trans fluid, loose/missing internal filter, worn/missing seals, or a worn pump.
