My transmission started having what I thought was a minor problem and quickly turned to something big, just haven't been able to get a straight answer from someone. It started a couple weeks ago when it had a 1 or 2 second delay going into gear. Checked fluid level and condition. Both ok. Relearned trans and it went away. Well, I drove to a friends house the other night and noticed it seemed to be shifting faster than normal with early tc lockup. I stayed there and went to leave the next morning and truck would not go into gear. Shifted multiple times through every gear, and it eventually very slowly went into gear. Drove home perfect other than faster than normal shifts and extremely early tc lockup again. Got home, ran codes, none. Checked fluid, no metal, level good, never got hot. Tried later that day and now no matter what gear it is in P R N D it goes forward. Wont even roll backwards in neutral without shutting off engine first. In park, it wont even rev up, its more like you are brake torqueing it other than the parking prawl catches. Don't want to unnecessarily waste money and would like to know what direction to go at this point.
You have a clutch engaged when it shouldn't be engaged. Most likely the forward, but it could be a different one. There is a possibility it is the solenoid for the clutch that is stuck on, but usually it happens from a failed clutch that has welded itself together.
I suspect this trans needs to come out and be torn down to find out what's wrong.
I would have to agree. It doesn't sound like a quick easy fix. How does the fluid smell? Anything other than reddish pink and sweet smelling and its past its prime. Burnt smell is self explanatory. It is most likely too late to ask, but you are checking fluid with engine running AND going by the LOW side of the stick. I'm sure Mark has seen his share of "good" fluid being bad. It comes with living inside trannys for years...only other thing I can think of is pull the pan and have a look inside and peek inside the filter. A clogged filter CAN be replaced but it won't help as what is clogging it is what is bad! So even if you get lucky, it is short lived.
If you are over 100,000 then its no shame. Sounds like rebuild time...let us know what happens and WHAT happened.
