Okay guys, I have a 2004 PSD with the infamous 6.0. I did have the FICM problem but took care of it. I found a blown intercooler boot and took care of that. Now when the engine is not quite warmed up I'm getting some aweful hesitation while driving. Once it reaches normal operating temp it gets better. It was not doing this before the other "fixes". I did have the turbo removed and cleaned out but that didn't help much. I'm thinking maybe it's the injectors? I'm also getting fuel mileage at about the 11 to 13 mpg range and that's not even towing anything.
I have a ScanGuage II and did read through the code post but just got totally confused on which X-Guage I should be using and what to look for in order to check the injectors.
I haven't been able to really make the Xgauges for the injectors work on my 04. You're better to take it to an autoparts store to have it scanned.
Sounds like you're suffereing from some injector stiction. If you're not running 5w40 try switching to it and adding a dose of Rev-x to see if that helps. It's far cheaper than changing an injector and it really seems to help.
I believe the shop I'm using for oil changes is using 5w40 but I'll double check. Actually just had the oil changed last week. I will try the Rev-X though. Any other ideas are welcome.
Mine runs a little better with Diesel Kleen in the tank. Mixed as directions say. Dealer can do a cylinder contribution/ balance test to single out a bad injector. I think the Auto Ingenuity software will do a similar test. It available on line and runs on YOUR computer.
Thanks for the info guys. I just ordered a couple of bottles of Rev-X. It was actually a bit cheaper directly from Rev-X. $73 shipped for two bottles.
I still have a concern though. Even if Rev-X works it seems like it would only be a temporary fix. Wouldn't I have to add Rev-X with each oil change? At $73 each time I could pay for an injector after a few changes and it increases the cost of an oil change to about $200 a pop.
rev-x says on there instructions for 2 bottles the first time and then i think only one or maybe less than that after if you want to continue using it. yes its temporary IMO but it might solve the problem all together. there have been people on here who used it once and havent had a problem since. then there are others who used it and it helped but didnt completely fix the problem.
