I have noticed that my transmission has a leak. I have done some searching and it seems like the front seal is known to leak when the tranny is overheated or worked really hard. Would this kind of leak only deposit fluid near the inspection plate/bellhousing? My leak looks like it is all around the pan kind of like the actual pan gasked is leaking.
Yes, the front seal leak will having fluid coming from the inspection plate at the front of the tranny.
Do you actually see it dripping from somewhere when stopped? As a leak from the seal will come out the inspection plate and while driving soak all things to the rear of the inspection plate.
If you are sure it's just from the pan, then first step would be to check the pan bolts for proper torque. The reusable pan gaskets are pretty good and you don't hear very often of the gasket going bad.
