Need some help. I have a 1979 F350 w/ 460 and c6 auto trans. I had a leak that appeared to be coming around the transmission pan, so I had the seal replaced last friday along with the fluid and filter. Transmission was dry as a bone through today. Now looks as though the seal is leaking again. Only thing is that yesterday I did not move the vehicle, but did let it run for about 20 minutes in park. Not sure why it would be leaking. Can it be leaking from another area and appearing as it is coming from the pan/seal. Any ideas will be gladly accepted.
if the leak is on the driver's side, it could be the shift lever seal, passenger side it could be the servo cover, back it could be the extension housing seal or modulator. otherwise, if it really is coming from around the pan, the lip of the pan could be bent or the pan could be overtightened, causing the gasket to leak.
Another guess would be if it is coming out of the front shaft seal. I had that happen and when it does, the torque converter throws the oil all across the front before it seeps down out of the cover. I fixed mine with a new seal and repair sleeve on the converter.

I replaced the pan gasket twice on mine before I realized it was the shift shaft seal. Clean it off good and check it daily for a couple of days. You may see fluid on the shift lever. Mines going to a shop to fix. Don't have time or patience to pull the valve body to replace the seal.
