hi mountain dewd, I have a '65 f 100 2wd. I have a 240 in it. I have a 1v carb,, and a dist. Recently put a pair of cast iron headers on. Wow...what a difference just doing that has made. I am interested in what you've done to your truck. Would you take a couple minutes and tell me? See, I'd like to make my truck even quicker. I have a 3.70 rear gear and a t-98. Thank you.
All the best, Pete

Pete, I too have a 65 F100, lwb, 2wd. If you want to go fast pull that 240 and drop in an FE, 390 or better, 9.5 compression, 4bbl, headers, and a nice cam. T3.70 gears will be quick, I have 3.50's a 3 on the tree and the above motor but mine is only a .030 over 352, which makes it about 359 CI./ I have a Mallory electronic distributor with the timing curve wound up tight and a FrankenHolly 650. It will straight LIGHT UP the 31's and continue up over 100. It will go faster but that's okay, don't need to find out top speed, just how fast it gets there. How she sits this morning. Needs a wash and put the trim on for now, till its time for paint. The blue halos have halogen capsules and are pretty bright.
Hi Thunderkiss 1965, I appreciate your comments. I really like 6 in a row. It goes all the way back to the summer of '63. I had a much older friend that took me to see his friends drag car. We went to the Atco Dragstrip, in southern NJ. We went into the pits to get right up to the car. I remember asking if'd be okay to stand up on one of the slicks. I don't remember the car's times...but it really moved out. The car was famous on the east coast...it's name was, "Jersey Jimmie." It was a GMC. Hot rod mag. even wrote a story about this car. The article's title was, "6 in a row ain't so slow."
Also, my same friend who took me to the drag strip, had a six in his 25' fishing boat. (we lived on a barrier island on the NJ coast). We'd go out into the wild Atlantic in his boat and not have one worry about getting back in. It was a very cool arrangement, the ocean water was routed through the motor and the salt water'd discharge out the back in a pipe that was the exhaust, no radiator needed. My uncle had inboard sixes in his boats. Same thing...no worries about performance or getting back in.
I had a '66 'Vette 4 bolt main 327/350 horse engine in my '55 -210 Chevy. I have experienced V8 muscle.
What part of southern Cal are you in?
Like your truck, especially the light green. Nice wheels. Are they 15"?
All the best, Pete

Pete, I'm in Lakeside, just east of San Diego. Don't get me wrong, I do have a spot in my heart for the sixes. I have had a few Dodge 225/6's, a couple of While prepping for the bed swap.
Ford 4.9's, 3 BMW sixes, including the 2.5 in my E30, a Toyota, and even a (yuck) Chevy. All good motors, some of them fast. Thanks for the comments on my truck, it's Caribbean Turquoise originally, with a Tropical Turquoise bed for now. The wheels are 15X8, got em off of C.L. set of five with center caps for $50. Some cleaning and a couple of cans of Rustoleum and they look great. Good luck with your truck, you will love it. I know my BMW, which I love to drive, collects a lot more dust than miles since I got the truck.
Best, Dan
Hi Dan, You are welcome for the remarks on your truck. You really came out good on the wheels. Great price, with chrome centers too ! Are you going to stay with the delicious Turquoise color?
I was on the USS Constellation that was stationed out of San Diego. There were a lot of us that bought motorcycles in Japan and brought them back with us. I bought a '72-650 Yamaha and really enjoyed the San Diego area on it. I so enjoyed coming across from Coronado on the bridge.
Thanks for saying I'd love what I do with my truck. Yes...there is a fondness in something we give time and attention to.
Like wise for you and your truck, may it only be good.
All the best, Pete
New goal. 1965 N 7000 to 145 mph safely with a 6 on gasoline towing a trailer . . (Record is like 141 mph with trailer) Lofty goal yes but think it can be done.
Updated 1966 Shortbed 160 mph no problem does 100 mph in 1/8 mile it's a 6 cyl too. 60 mph cruise it will do 25 mpg
Well, I know I hit at least 100 in my 66 F250, 300/Offy/Holley 390/Heddmans/NP435/4.10's and 265/75/16's I didn't have GPS back then, but the speedo went to 100 and past it a bit, new front bushings/tie-rods/bearings and everything, actually was quite smooth, if a bit noisy, and my sixer was wound a lil tight, but it did surprise the rice burner who was being a DBag and wanted to speed up when I passed him on the 99
1965 F-100, 352 with internal upgrades, Holley 650 on Edelbrock intake. No-name long tube headers into flowmaster 40's, and an old Mallory distributor with a custom curve and manifold vac to the can. 3.70-1 gears, 235/75/15's and a 5-speed overdrive.
now, I had it up over 100 with the 3on the tree (1-1 final drive) it was up over 4000 rpm. Now I pass through 100 at around 3000 rpm. I suppose I have had it to around 120. My tires are rated at 118 I think. The truck will go faster but things happen really fast at that speed, and I like my truck. Yep, that's my truck Wish I had innies in sixteen inch
