Kenwood HD545U (discontinued now, but you can find them re-manufactured) or the HD548U are great head units that won't break the bank. Sound quality is excellent - you'll notice a big improvement even with stock speakers.

Picked up a Kenwood DNX 9980HD today. Will be installing it in my Ex tomorrow. Love my Kenwood stereos.

Just installed a Kenwood HD548U last night. Loving it so far. I have a bad L/R speaker and will be tackling that today. I bought the speakers several years ago and now it's time to get that job done. I want to take full advantage of the new sound.

I have found that just about any head unit puts out a quality signal. The part that makes your music sound 'good' is the speakers, amp, and subwoofer. Sounds like you've already got that covered.

The stereo I have now was just a cheap one to get me by I didn't know if there were any benefits to spending $300 on a stereo vs spending $100 on one.

I put a Clarion NZ500 which is alittle more than 300 but I have it setup to Play dvd while driving and I use it for the Navigation mostly but it is good for the kids when we go on long drives. I am able to play and charge my Iphone via USB and I have a 10"sub with a 1000 Watt Amp going to it.

I think you can't go wrong with any of the big names in audio. I have a JVC, but what I really like about it is the front usb port so I can plug in my 8g flash drive. ALL my music, and I never get a skip!

Going to disagree. A good head unit is very important. Garbage in, garbage out. You don't necessarily have to spend a lot for a good one, but a <$100 bargain basement unit isn't going to get you very good quality.

Another vote for Kenwood. I have the DDX7017 series w/ touch screen...love it! A little trimming is needed to fit in the stock hole on two sides but nothing major. Running 2 amps, 1) 12" sub and 2) 10" subs and 2) 6x9's.

I'm quite happy with my pioneer head unit.
