Hello everyone, I just got a new 6.7 F-350 and I figured I'd post this down here since many of you probably have the same radio. I have the factory navigation radio, which I love, however the sound quality is just awful... is this something that can be fixed with a set of good speakers or is it the deck? Everything just sounds hollow and flat....
Oh my....yes the speakers are junk---many posts ref this and upgrades of various stages,,,if you want a surprise take a look at one of the speakers in the door panel,,,I replaced all speakers including the sub and included two amps and Dyna mat on doors,,kept the head unit (original stereo and controls) can't tell anything was replaced till you turn it on
Tweeters do mount in stock location but I had to make a 1" hole for my tweeters. The Polk audio component speaker systems come with great mounting hardware. Very easy and clean. If you happen to go with Polk you will need to add a sub woofer. Not much low end in them but the highs are incredible.
Interested in details as I noted the same thing....
Are you saying to replace the sub behind the rear seat as well ?
have any links to particular threads where this was done ?
Thanks in advance
Man, I really need to take the time to post some pics on my set up. I have had several requests but never get around to it. Do a search with my screen name and look at all my threads.
I have two kicker 10" subs behind my rear seats. I built the speaker enclosure myself, I just measured and built a box that would fit leaving 3/8" of clearance between the back of the seats and the front of the box. It's a wedge, about 7" at the bottom tapering to about 3" at the top. The width is tricky. Passenger side is a rectangle that fits from the side of the seat over towards the middle of the cab stopping at the slide window motor. The driver side box is an L shape, full width at the bottom, had to work around the slide window mechanism at the top. Both speaker boxes do match the cubic inch req. for the speakers but just barely, they are sealed enclosures. Sad part is that stops most people from doing this is, you have to cut the carpet and remove the pass through vents on the back wall of the cab. My speaker boxes are mounted directly against the rear sheet metal of the cab. This is where folks go "no way".
The amp is mounted in the underseat storage with vent holes drilled and a couple of radio shack computer fans to circulate air. It's only a 500W amp powering two subs but they sound great.
Gotta remove the rear seats from the cab to install but make your measurements before you take them out. My signal feeding the amp from the head unit is just a line level converter spliced into the rear speakers, no need to tear into the dash.
I installed Polk component speakers into the existing factory locations, no brainer and well worth the cost. I don't have them hooked to the amp. My system is great, I listen to jazz (real jazz), classical, top 40, lithium, talk radio, heavy metal, r&b, everything is very clear and satisfying.
Oh good, I was worried it might be the head unit. Jmcquarry, were you able to mount the new tweeters in the stock location?
Everything mounts in the stock location, the JL Audio C3's x4 worked nicely and utilized the stock blk tweeter enclosures. I also added a Rockford Fosgate amp for the C3's. I then had a custom box with factory carpet to match built for the sub under the rear seat (also retained the power port from inside the plastic box-had it mounted on the leading edge, runs the full length and replaces the plastic box. I used a JL Audio 13" low profile sub which fires down. I then used a matching Rockford Fosgate amp to power the sub with a remote sub power adjust control on the bottom of the dash (when you don't want too much bass-although you can still use the bass control on the head unit). Both amps were mounted behind the back of the rear seat against the cab wall. It may have been a little overkill but when I started I could not help myself. I was very happy I could retain the stock head unit, the sound is incredible, even at very low levels, the Dynamat also helped,,,also keeps the sound in as to not disturb fellow motorists,,,,,
Can someone please help me out with the rear speaker wiring?
The attached pdf shows the wire to the tweets going thru the speaker.
Do you just parallel the BW-WH and BU-H
BN-BU / VT-WH
WH-GN / GN-BN
BN-YE / GY-BN
It doesn't show what is going on inside the speaker.
Maybe it will make sense when I take it apart.

Sorry Darren32, I was at the Ford dealership trying to get the Leveling kit removed,,,,but thats another story,,,,,then had to go to the office,,,just saw your post,,I would not have been much assistance anyway as I paid to have it done....but I can tell you the sub is better if it is pointed down, so under the seat with the 13" JL Audio shallow sub was the perfect fit for me,,,also the box should be certain dimensions for air flow etc,,,but just replacing the speakers in the doors is very easy and relatively inexpensive, the correct speakers fit in the the stock locations with little to no modifications,,,had someone else do the install due to the amps and wiring issues,,,

No problem whatsoever, I spent a lot of the day reading all your posts and they were very helpfull so thank you very much!
I already ordered the infinity 6832's that some have but after reading all day have determined I would like to take it a bit further......this one is gonna cost me
Thanks all for the input in all the audio threads that I was not interested in....until today!
Oh my,, tell your wife I apologize,,,but, my choice for component speakers are, JL Audio and Focal, can't go wrong with either,,,the separation of sound is very evident and before I replaced the factory sub I did not think it was working with the increased sound from the new speakers and amp,,,,
