Audio wiring

How are the wires run from the radio to the speakers? What do you think of Crutchfield? Going to keep the stock radio, any suggestions on amps and speakers will be appreciated. Best, CB

I suggest rethinking the stock radio.

I left in the original speakers and installed a scratch and dent Alpine unit from Crutchfield.

More amps and with the bass, mid and treble adjustments, the sound was much better.

Charlie: I have some new speakers on the way, and going to try with the stock head unit for now and see how that sounds. It is hard to suggest something cuz it is hard to know what you want out of your sound system. I checked out crutchfield first to find out what I wanted, and needed and then found WAY cheaper on ebay for the same thing. Hopefully get them in this week and have a weekend project. If I don't like the sound I can always upgrade with an amp and then new player. Just have to wait and see if I can be happy with the sound. I went with infinity kappa 6x8's with the external crossover, model 682.9cf.

Here's what i have found
Factory radio = low watt's
Factory Speakers = crappy performance
replace one or the other and things are way better!
Buy a real nice set of speakers and the factory radio will sound tons better
buy a new radio and twice the watts going to stock speakers sound great!

^^ What he said. I opted to replace both the speakers and the radio and it sounds a 1000 times better.

The speaker wires just run through a harness. There's a plug in back of the radio and connectors at the speakers. Where they go in between doesn't really matter.

Crutchfield is great for research, though their prices are normally higher than competitors. I use SonicElectronix and OnlineCarStereo the majority of the time.

Check out the Audio forum in the Misc. section for lots of good info and advice.

The best thing about crutchfield is that they will give you everything you need to install. Harness, brackets, how to disassemble, etc...

Harnesses and brackets aren't exclusive to Crutchfield. The only thing that is are the vehicle specific instructions, and those aren't always 100% accurate.

Sure, and hopefully they don't take long. The worst is shipping up here into Canada can be quick or a very long process.

I found it will sound better but not great until you do the complete system. I went with a Pioneer Z2, JL amps, 10" single JL sub, JL ZR's in the front and JL ZX in the rear and it sounds GREAT!

Well, I got the speakers in last night. I can say it is an improvement over the stock ones. Way more clarity in the sound, even in the higher volume range.

Charlie Bravo, with your stock stereo in the 09 they will sound much better than my stock 02 stereo. I am looking to add a new stereo and then complete the system with an amp in the next year, maybe even come tax return time. They do have a 5 ch amp available for what you would use. I need a six channel, as the X has 3 sets of speakers, and runs in the 299 range so the 5 ch should be cheaper. If you like a little bass, you will want to add a woofer also, but for the 67.00 per pair price + shipping for these speakers you can not lose.
