New to this forum, i have a 2005 E350 i bought with 130k. Now it has 140k. For the last several months i notice a fairly pronounced banging/clicking sound underneath the van intermittently.
Here are the facts:
It happens at lower speeds only when driving in the city, not at speed on freeway unless i am going below 55 and in stop and go traffic.
It sounds like it is near the center of the van around where the drive shaft and transmission meet.
When i accelerate from a stop it will happen, most but not all the time.
When i decelerate it happens frequently but not all the time.
It may be happening when the truck shifts from 1st to 2nd or from 3rd to 2nd, but it is not reliably so. I rarely here it on the freeway.
I do notice a similar clicking/engaging sound when i shift from park into gear or vice versa.
The transmission never slips, no indicators in the fluid which is clean.
The van was very well maintained, all hwy miles prior to me owning it.
It sounds like a bearing or u joint issue or somthing with the suspension.
yep u-joints i had mine brake a cap and would just bounce around when i replaced it. It was not very far from just falling out ...................check it NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the U joints do need replaced use a good brand like Spicer etc etc---and make certain they're the greasable types as they are sold without the Zerk fittings even in the replacement parts markets.
