Just wondering how common oil leaks are on this engine? The truck is an '06 with about 113,xxx miles. IS that premature for an oil leak, or is there no "time-table" for them....Are diesels more prone to them? I haven't tried to diagnose it yet, but it looks like its coming from the front of the engine....
Probably the crank or cam position sensor. Its pretty common for them to have a damaged o-ring that leaks later on. My dad's '03 had the rear main replaced and then they thought bedplate and did the dye test, turned out to be the crank position sensor. DOH!
Every ford ive owned never leaked, dripped or anything of that nature..........until I bought my 04 350.always have a drip of oil on the bottom of the bell housing.never hits the driveway though,so I don't worry about it.
Oil leaks are TOO common with these engines. They can range from a cheap fix to one that's very expensive.
Make sure whoever is diagnosising the oil leak is using dye in the oil to properly diagnosis the source.
Thanks for the information. I will probably try to find a good diesel mechanic around here to conduct that die test, and pray its an easy fix. It is pretty small, only noticeable after the truck has been sitting in the same spot after a few hours. I am just one of those types who doesn't like to see my vehicle drip anything, lol
Mine has never dripped, but the underside has always been wet looking from a slow leak. I did find a cut o-ring on the cam-position sensor, so hopefully that was the problem.
