trans temp guage question

hello all i have a problem or what i think is a problem with my new guage. i drove for 20-30 miles empty so far all at once and the guage reads only 110-120 degrees does that seem right. half at 35-45mph other half at 55-60 mph does that seem right or is the sensor not right on a 70 degree day. i have a new transmission with 8000miles on it with mercon v a upgraded oem 7.3l cooler little bigger than what came in it and had to get it for fords warrenty and a aftermarket derale inline cooler. it just doesnt ssem right seems really cold to me and the stock guage reads normal fast like 3 miles but that doesnt help cus there crap. what do you all think?

Those temps seem on par with a healthy trans, here's some info on the stock "idiot" gauge

Once you added that Derale inline cooler to the mix you are going to see even more of a reduced temps in your tranny. On 90* plus degree days running at operating temps I've never seen above 150*-160*. Sounds good here..

I run a huge van full of stuff all day long, I only see 120 to 150 degrees. So your gauge is good to go.

That is great information! I knew the stock gauge was doing "that", because towing a 15K trailer up a 7% grade at 7,000', at about 80 degrees outside, it never moved above "normal". So I bought gauges and low and behold, it showed the temp going up to 220. So I added an additional cooler and changed fluids. No problems now, but relying on the stock gauge could cause you trans problems for sure, especially if your pulling!

I wish I could remember where I saw a chart that showed you what happens to the life of your trans fluid as you get to 200. All I remember is you don't want to be there.

Don't bother with that chart. It's a flat out lie.

I agree. If it were true, there wouldn't be very may transmission shops up north...

I see you worked on them. So what is a safe temp to run them at and where does the fluid start breaking down?

Fluid is safe up to about 300°F. Ford says the safe temp is 220°F all day long, and 250°F for no more than 1/2 hour at a time.

That's good to know. Guess I wasted some $ on the Tru-cool.
