What are people getting for a tranny temp reading on their guages.
My guage goes from 100 - 250 deg.
The highest reading it has shown is 150 deg. and that is towing a trailer about 75 mph. With just the truck, it ranges from 120 - 150
Is this normal? Or is my guage reading low?
BTW my stock tranny guage comes up to the middle range almost as soon as I turn the truck on. Ford has told me this is "normal"
if you are talking about a factory installed trans temp gauge, they are more of a warning light than a gauge. it will read normal any where from 100*-220* and will only move when the trans is hot enough to do damage. before i installed my 24000# trans cooler my temps got to 220*(too high in my opinion). now with the cooler i never see 200* pulling the same load.
I was referring to the autometer guage I just installed - it reads no higher than 150 with the trailer. Just wondering about the accuracy of this - it seemed a little cool, but I have nothing to compare it to.

my temps would only, really climb when i was pulling 6000# or more. for instance when i pull my boat(about 4000#) it does not move much past 160*
I just pulled my 11000# fifth wheel the other day 150 miles and never seen any temps higher than 152 on my SPA tranny gauge. I do have a large tranny cooler inline with the stock cooler and outside temps were around 65 deg.
Going down the highway towing a 6000#+ trailer I never saw anything higher than 150*. But in town, just driving around it would get up to 180*. Show's that the tranny cooler does make a difference, more air flowing through it on the highway compare to town, but I'm also shifting gears a lot more in town.
