Got a 97 4x4 Crew with auto trans temp guage. It has been in the 90's most of the last month and my temp is running above 200 degrees F just running around town empty or after a 30 minute highway drive(green arc is 160-240F). It seems a bit high to me but am wondering what normal should be. It has the stock cooler and Bully Dog guages. Fluid looks full and normal at this time. I have only had this truck for a month and haven't gone on a long trip yet or pulled anything heavy. Anyone with stats please chime in. Thanks.
The stock trans cooler is a joke, I think you would benefit from a larger one. I try to keep tranny temps under 190...even when towing.
What Jim said. Mine was like yours 200* then I changed the tranny cooler and now it goes no more that 160* (towing). Maybe a synthetic oil also helps the tranny. Here in my country I cant get that oil
I thought I read on here that 230* to 240* is the highest. I have two coolers (true cool and a hayden) and I'm up to that temp pulling 14K at 75mph on a hot day with Mobile syn oil. Maybe its time I do some changes; slow down, change the fluid, check for blockage, bigger lines??????????? PS, I can't stand going slow!!

240 is too high. what size cooler are you running? i run the big haydens part#1405 i believe. it's the biggest that i see they make that's reasonably priced anyhow. it's rated at like 26,000 lbs gvw. the only other thing you could do it put a transmission cooler that has a built in fan and 1/2" coolant tubes running threw it. those are like $200. even running the big cooler mine still gets warm??? i have a dodge cummins that has the same cooler but has 1/2" lines running to and from the trans and cooler and i can be plowing snow for hours on end and grab a trans line and it's warm but not hot. maybe 1/2" trans lines would be the way to go?? later, pete
yea, I've been thinking about the 1/2" lines. I'm not sure what part # I have, its been awhile. My gauge hardly ever moved from 130* until I got the TW. Now I drive to fast, if I slow down the temp drops right down. Tell me more about the trans cooler with fan, what brand and where to buy. Thanks, Glenn
