My truck should be home by the end of the week (maybe today!). My mechanic has to rebuild the carburetor & hook up the throttle linkage & she'll be good to go. Finally!
She sounds good too! She doesn't have a dragster lope like I was hoping. I guess it's more of a (stock)smooth, throaty sound because of the mufflers. LOL! Oh well, one step at a time & she'll eventually be the truck I dream of.
Normally would be going to Vegas in Oct..but will miss this year
You race NHRA at the LVMS track? I bet I've seen you there in the last 2 years! We go every year at the end of October. We won't be there this year tough. Can't afford it.

While it's still there, ask your mechanic to hurry up and replace the cam. That's what gives you the "dragster lope" that you like. Most times increasing the centerline helps give you that, but also increasing the duration and your lift a bit on your intake and exhaust helps too. You don't have to go nuts with that, so you won't have to upgrade your valve springs and all that.
He/she should be able to get it done in maybe 3-4 hours depending on the engine setup. Only thing he/she would have to do is take back off the valve covers, intake manifold, water pump and front cover most times on your engine (each engine varies) to get it done. It really doesn't take that long to do it and it will get you what you want out of the engine (your lope). Besides the sound, you will get a pretty decent performance boost out of it as well.

I wish I could afford to have him do that! This was originally supposed to be a $350 repair & LOF, but ended up being a unexpected $1000 top end rebuild! Thank God my mechanic set me up on a payment plan, cause I owe him about $200 - $300 still.
Maybe he can just adjust the idle down for now to give it that slight lope.
Ouch, ya, I can see where you wouldn't want to put much more into it after already putting $1k into it, Donna. But I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the performance when you get it back and very cool about your mechanic taking payments from you.
