Are you shifting in and out of 4x4 while moving or sitting still?
I also have a 2008 F450 4X4, I always shift in and out of 4x4 while moving off the thottle.
going down the highway at 60mph light flasnes on and off , truck surgess trying to go into 4wheel high. if your in cruise control it cuts off about 10sec. before 4wheel light comes on and off. unplugged transfer case wire, 4wheel wont work but light doesn't come. hope to get it fixed if i can find out what the problem is. also if you turn the 4 wheel switch 4wheel works ok.

Okay, now I understand. Sounds like an intermittent electrical gremlin. You said you disconnected the shift motor wire and the problem went away, so I think it could be a bad shift motor. The motors have sensors inside that tell the computer that the shift is completed, and we are in 4-Hi or 4-Lo, or whatever. I'm thinking you are getting a false signal from a sensor inside the shift motor. The motor itself seems to work, since 4WD works when you want it to, but the sensors could still be sending false signals. I have no idea if that is something that can be disassembled and checked.

thanks for the input, now if i can get ford to fix it. thanks mac
have tried 4 ford dealers spent nearly 700.00, put truck into shop yesterday they called today said they cant find the problem. said they could start taking the front end apart to see if its in the four wheel drive system. cant afford much more. told them to disconext 4wheel i will go get truck. does anyone know anything else i can do or contact? help...
Could it be a bad switch? The one on the dash? Seems like it could be a cheap fix, but I dont know. When Im troubleshooting I usually start with the easiest component to fix/check. You know, with all the threads on this forum about the 4x4 system of these trucks acting up its a damn shame! Come on Ford,!!!!!!!! quit acting like Chev.

So the dealers charged you $700 trying to learn how to fix your truck? I would call regional representative and request assistance.
Dealer should find the problem or refund your money.
ford dealer cant find problem said they could pull front end apart to find problem but it would cost abunch. problem started at 53000 miles now over 61000 still same problem. what happened to ford tough?
