I do have a question fo y'all, I'm gonna be goin to the dealerships on saterday to look at trucks (I have in mind the 6.7 liter f250). I've never been to a dealership before and was wonder if you guys had any tips or things I should ask while I'm there?
I can tell you what I did on the last two new vehicles I've bought. One Ford, one Toyota. Picked the model we were interested in. Did NOT ask what they would take for it. You don't want them to take a position on price which pride may make them try to defend. Instead, ask for a printout of the dealer invoice. The invoice will have the MSRP, the dealer cost, and depending on the brand it may have some employee prices on it. The dealer invoice cost is your reference point. Start negotiating from their cost.
Depending on model popularity and market conditions, you may offer less than their cost (they still make money) or you may offer $500 - $1,000 over their cost.
On an expensive hot selling truck like a 6.7 SD, I would feel very good about a purchase price at their invoice cost, to maybe $500 over.
I've never been refused a request to see the invoice. I would just walk out of any dealership that refused.
You can do the same thing if you place a factory order. The last truck I ordered I payed $100 over their invoice. But that was in 1988 dollars.

If you're going to buy and if you have a Costco membership, you might want to log on the their site and check into their auto buying program.
We bought new wheels for the wife in May and knew exactly how much the car would cost before we left the house.

Here's another angle. If you have multiple dealerships in your areas, go to one of them that has a vehicle that is very similar to the one you like. Start haggling with them until they say no.String them along and get a verbal commitment on an OTD price. Offer lower, and don't sign anything. If they let you walk out the door, you found the right number. This is also a good warmup for making the deal on the truck you want. Go to the dealership that has the one you want and hammer them. Don't pay more than you think it's worth. It's your money.

That's always good advice.
I enjoy the deal making process, and I like to take a position of authority. Like Will said, it is your money. But my other piece of advice is, don't let $500 or even $1,000 keep you from owning the truck you want. I've read stuff from guys who stomped out of the office because of $200! Seems silly to me. It is only money, and in the end you die. No sense walking to your grave when you can drive in style.
Thanks for the reps, but apparently the Rep Police dont trust you because its a grey rep on my page. I've never seen one before. My only guess is that its because youre new and havent got to [INSERT MAGIC NUMBER] posts yet.
