I normally drive around in 80E and have noticed weird shifting behavior into 3rd gear since the install. It only seems to happen with decent amounts of throttle (50% and above); with light throttle application the shifts feel fine.
What it feels like is it's trying to lock the TC immediately after the shift into 3rd, but it then quickly unlocks. The feeling at this point is a slight loss of acceleration, almost free wheeling for a second. Then as it progresses through the gear the TC locks again and stays there.
I should probably take a video and post it. When it happens you can hear the load on the engine change. It does it whether I have OD turned off or not. I also think it's specific to the economy tune because I don't notice it when I use stock or 40T. I haven't tried to make it happen in 120R because it feels bad enough with the 80E tune, and figured 40 more HP wouldn't help things if something is indeed wrong.
Does this sound like a problem, or normal / "working as designed"? Would it be worth trying to send the F5 in for possible updates? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I run my 80e most the time too and mine doesn't shift like that. My first and second seems like a softer shift and third and lockup seem a bit more aggressive on mine. Good luck
X2 mine slams into 3rd with to much go pedal.The 120r hits hard through all the gears but not like its going to leave the trans laying on the ground behind me.
I was thinking I had valve body probs.Getting ready to install a tugger HD2 soon to see what changes then.
I think I'm gona try the JW valve body (when I get the money)and see what happens too. I don't mind the way it shifts. I don't know if it will wear things out quicker or if it doesn't hurt anything? Seems I read somewhere a quicker shift is better for wear?
I had the same concern as for hard shifting when I installed my JW VB after my DP Tuner, mine hits kinda hard at lower exceleration but was comforted by Stewat-H that all was fine, just had to get used to the faster quicker shifts. Justin, I echo Andy's remarks, call Jody and see what he says, good luck.
After driving it more I think I'm just being paranoid because it is operating different than I'm expecting it to.
Does the TC lock in 2nd gear?
If yes, does the shift between 2 and 3 occur with the TC locked?
If yes, does the TC unlock after the shift into 3rd, then lock again before the shift into OD?
It's definitely an oversight by Jody,I got some updates and tweaks at RRE this year,I noticed while driving today(today is the first chance I've had to drive it),ONLY in 80E,the TC doesn't stay locked like it should,but it was before the updates,in all other tunes it locks up and stays locked until you get down to 25mph,but in 80E it unlocks when you let off the go peddle,and relocks when you gas on it again,but I'm not sweating it,I know Jody will take care of it....

I upgraded to the F6 but I am not sure I want to give up all the program slots in the F8 just for the ability to have other tunes written onto it until I can confirm that they can do things that Jody cannot.
Not an oversight. Jody makes changes often based on what people tell him they like or don't like about his tunes. In the econo files he removed downshifting due to the dislike by most of our customers. Only the tow and performance tunes currently have the downshifting. At RRE you got the most current tunes updates, but if you prefer to have it back he can put it back for you. Let us know.
Just a reminder, Jody will be traveling out of the country and then to Utah for live tuning for 14 days straight. I would wait until after August 21st to send chips or PCM's in or they will be just sit here until he gets back. Regular online non-custom orders will ship, but not as fast as Jody can get them out.
