this is about to bug the heck out of me and i check it about 5 times a day when at a comlpete stop and accelerate at a regular speed so you can hear every shift with the OD off it will shift 4 times 1st,2nd,3rd,od then push the OD button and it will shift again i got a 2003 F250 CC LB 2wd and it is shifting 5 times is there a auto that has 5 speeds theat a previos owner could have installed
no, some of the "shifts" you hear is actually not due to the transmission shifting, but rather the Torque converter locking up, in the same gear. i believe the transmission follows this shift pattern.
start out in 1st, unlocked
shift to 2nd, unlocked
lock TC in 2nd
shift to 3rd, TC locked
shift to OD, unlocked or locked depending on the load and throttle position.
i know on my truck with the aftermarket tuning, it will go from 1st unlocked and shift into 2nd with the TC locked all the way. that is only on a moderate to heavy throttle input. light throttle, it acts normal.
yeah that makes sense if that is the case my TC locks in 3rd and thet is what i feel if you are going up hill when it locks up you can tell a big diffrence(wished it felt like that all the time)

I'm with you, if it felt that way all the tme I would have a hard time keeping it on the road!
Once I get the money I will be calling Jody and getting the chip that locks it up sooner, I figure it will be less wear on the tc that way as well.

Right on! with Jody and his tranny control code! Awesome T/C work. Of course u can also add that T/C lock-up manual control in your cab for minimal bucks.

my truck is so much more fun to drive now that i have full control of my torque converter. since i have added the lockup switch, i basically have an automatically shifting manual transmission. next on my list is a 6.0 converter, so i will have less of that CVT feeling in 1st and 2nd gear when the TC is unlocked during normal operation.

I have tried to get a hold of John wood @ jwtt.com, haven't heard anything back. I am interested in using teh 5r100 t/c as well but haven't recieved any information on the adapter plate that is needed. Do you have any information on going this route?
