The new Chevy's still sound nice. They are louder than the 6.4 powerstrokes even. The new Dodge's I can't say because no one around here drives them but the one or two I've seen I could at least hear a little engine noise. It seems like Ford is the only one who took the 'quiet diesel' a little too far.
I can still hear that a 6.7 is a diesel while it is running whether I am outside the truck or inside the truck. Sure my dads 6.7 is quieter then my 6.0 but there is no way to not recognize it as a diesel, I can even hear his truck when we are parked side by side running, if I am standing on the far side of his truck away from mine.
Jaybird spoken like true gentleman ,your not weird your just the same as most of us I think we all enjoy those sounds and smells of our trucks that what makes us enthusiasts , happy trails everybody
My wife whines about the noise, but it is really only noisy at idle. And I agree it is a wonderful noise. My only complaint is it reminds me of a school bus, and being a teacher with Summer vacation rolling down, the noise is terrifying!
I'm with you BP, I started with a 86 F-250 witha 6.9 natural, then went to a 92 7.3 natural. Then bought 2, 04 F-350's with 6.0. Talk about a power change. Still love my diesel sounds, smell and power.
The OP didn't tell us why he would like to hush his 6.0. I can imagine any number of reasons why he would need that. Like sneaking away from his girlfriends house without waking her father (or husband!). Or sneaking away from home when it is his turn to do the dishes. Someone stop me, 'cause I've got a million of 'em...
I enjoy the 6.0 clatter, and that turbo whine, but a quiet 6.7 would suit me just fine too. I'm not against progress.
I'll bet a conference with a skilled tuner could result in a tune that could significantly quiet that 6.0. If it is really that important.
I seem to remember reading about the 6.0 originally having some sort of "2 stage" (maybe my words) injection strategy designed to quieten it down during idle and after some problems this feature was deleted with a software flash.
Agree - I had the two stage at one time and it's been changed 2 or 3 times since then...
the inductive heating, the after shutdown pumping of injectors....

I think what you are recalling is called pilot injection. Basically an early shot of fuel BTDC that effectively cushions the reversal of the piston stroke, before the power shot(s) of fuel are injected. That's probably what they are doing with the 6.7. Anyone recall the video of the 6.7 test engine that showed the difference in sound between a normal injection cycle, and the new injection pilot strategy? Come to think of it, I'm sure they are doing that with the 6.4 as well. I guess they have learned how to do it and still get acceptable life out of an injector.

Well, some of us did offer suggestions to be helpful. In between the joking and ridicule, and off topic stuff like mine.
