I can tell you from personal experience that that is total BS--LOL
I can tell you from a side by side comparison that a 6.0 with 5w-40 Rotella is at least 40% quieter than a 6.0 with 15w-40 conventional after both trucks cold soak at -20F for 12 hours and are then started.
Hell, never mind the actual engine noise, just the fact that my truck with 5w-40 in it wasn't bucking, shaking and gyrating made it at least 40% quieter!

I will agree that my truck is quieter on startup too, but I couldn't give you a percentage. My monster IS what it IS but the Rotella is the first syn oil (besides Mobil1) that my engine has actually liked.

Being that the OP is from TX, I don't think there will be much of a chance of that. Growing up in NE TX myself, it did get pretty damn cold, single digits at times, but not -20°F.
While my truck does run smoother on Mobil 1 synthetic, I can't say that it does run quieter and I for sure wouldn't have the ability to give %s about how much quieter it is even if I did notice a reduction in noise.

Maybe it just seemed like 40% because the guy with the 15w-40 was yelling and cursing at his truck!
Mine STARTS quieter with the 5W-40, but with the 15W-40, once it warmed up a little is was just as quiet as it is now.
And it ain't quiet and I don't see any way it's going to be. Unless someone modified the OP's truck with bigger exhaust and took off the cat and muffler. Then he could get quieter by going back to stock.
If it's inside the cab noise, I've seen some discussions on here about additional sound proofing.
This truck is SOOOO much quieter than my first Ford diesel... 1992 7.3 normally aspirated... To the original poster.... what are you comparing it too? Surely NOT a Cummings!!! LOL
You know, it really makes us all look good when a new guy asks an honest question and gets a bunch of smart *** answers.
Yeah, the 6.0L isn't probably going to be quiet. But the least we can do is try to help him the best we can. Even if it is explaining that the 6.0L isn't probably going to be very quiet.
