I know most of you here love your diesel sound. I recently got an 06 6.0 psd (from a GM gasser) an I have to admit, its a noisy sucker at idle. My wife has to cover her ears each time she climbs in the truck. Nothing wrong with it running, it is what it is. Once in the cab at road noise speed, we are fine.
Anything we can do to quite this beast down? BTW my daughter has named the truck BAT- Big *** Truck!!
Minor things you can do is run a fuel additive, like Diesel Kleen, and run 5W-40 synthetic oil, which helps with the clatter in the winter. Maybe add a hood blanket from the '04 and previous trucks.
But it won't be dramatically better. Or worse, depending on your perspective. That beast wants to run!
Anyone know why the hood blanket was eliminated. My '03 6.0 has one and overall the truck is quiet for a diesel. My wife hate how the diesel smells however, too bad for her!

Fish, diesels were born loud, dont really know what you can do to quiet it, unless you buy an 08 or newer. Personally i love the smell of diesel, hate the smell of gas
You could try running some BioDiesel, it will quiet it a little bit, but at the end of the day it is a diesel and they are noisy. Unless you get 08^ like was stated.

That's been my experience. And I have to admit that while I am a big, BIG skeptic of additives (fuel or otherwise), my truck seems a bit quieter after the 16 ounces of Power Service this last fill-up (Not that I care about that--I lvoe the turbo whine and the diesle clatter--make it FUN! ). ... I am also going to try the 2-stroke oil thing and see if that makes a notable difference.
I enjoy the noise and the smell. My wife grew up around first gen Dodge's and a bit newer, so this is quieter. both my neighbors own PowerStrokes, so it's nothing new to hear one or more crank over at -5 fahrenheit @ 530am.
