I have a 1997 explorer and my alternator went bad . since then my keyless entry won't work it don't lock when put in gear and my remote (clicker) doesn't work at all any suggestion how to fix
It sounds to me like one of two problems...
1) blown fuse
2) fried control module
First check all your fuses... especially those that go to the electric locks. Hopefully that's it. If all your fuses check out, you likely have a bigger problem in that the bad alternator could have fried the brains of the control module that operates the locks in concert with the remote and the gear interlocks.
try this, cycle your ignition switch to "on" and "off" repeatedly untill the doors lock and unlock, then push the unlock button on your remote. then push the lock button on the remote, that shoul get the remote t work, and hopefully solve the other isue.
OK... I just have to know... did you get this problem resolved? If so, what was it?
I've been dealing with my own keyless entry issues and have learned a lot along the way... both Ford and aftermarket systems. Anyway... let us know how it turned out...

NO i haven't solved the problem yet it's nerve racking I have power locks but not keypad or clicker
OK... so to clarify...
Factory keyless entry system
- Key Fob doesn't work
- Key pad on door doesn't work
- Auto-lock doesn't work when put into drive
But the power lock/unlock switch on the armrest still works?
If the armrest switch doesn't work, I have to say it's likely a fuse that drives the power locks. If that switch is working, and the other tech is not, it's a little more complicated. If it was just the key fob and the key pad not working, I would say that those just need to get reprogrammed (whitefordexplorer's procedure above would cover that... have you tried that?) If when you try the ignition on/off 8 times and it doesn't actuate the power locks, I go back to the blown fuse. In that case the armrest switch shouldn't work either. It would also explain why it doesn't auto-lock when you shift into drive.
If the armrest switch does work, but the other procedures don't... I expect it's more serious (like a fried controller module). Let's start simple first and we can confirm what does and doesn't work.
I had a '93 lincoln markVIII that had the door panel key pad, water had gotten into the pad and destroyed it. i had to replace the component and then it worked again. maybe thats your issue.
Do either of you know how to find the code for the driver door touch pad on a 99 mountaineer? Or how to program a new code with out goin to a dealer? I Bought it used and dont have the manual and the old owner dont remember it, i heard theres a tag under the passenger airbag, but im not taking anything apart till im sure,

Sure...it's printed on the control box that is located on the driver's side rear, behind the panel. Pull the dog leg shaped panel out, and look in it towards the front...it's a grey box with wires running to it. You can either pull the entire panel, or use a flashlight and a mirror to see it...it's the 5 digit number on the top face of the box.
You could also do what the PO did to mine...they located a replacement at a JY, plugged it in and left it hanging. Since it's not where ti belongs, it was really easy to find! LOL
