I'm driving a 99 F-350 4x4 crew cub dually. Yesterday I noticed that at 70 MPH the tach was reading 200 more rpm than normal. With the cruise on, going over small hills I noticed the RPM going up and down instead of just hearing the turbo. I havn't noticed any other problems, before yesterday. Researching the forum it sounds like the Torque Converter or a pressure control module. Any advice before I spend alot of money at the shop???? Thanks
That does sound like the torque converter is not locking. I don't know what you mean by pressure control module.
There are several things that can keep the torque converter from locking. You'll need a high end scan tool to monitor data from the PCM to diagnose this.
Mark, Thanks for the reply. Here's the rest of the story. Took it to the trans shop and told them what was wrong. He put the scanner on it and no codes. He drove it and said he thinks the converter is the problem also. Later that day his tech's drove it with the scanner hooked up. Still no codes. He did a pan check and found alot of stuff and suggested a rebuild. I agreed. He found a couple of burnt bands and the real problem. The snap ring that holds the springs for the overdrive had "been blown off", not allowing the O.D. to work correctly. $2,000.00 later it runs great. And that price included a billet converter.
