I am in need of some help. I just bought a 99 f-350 4x4 with 113000 miles. It has the Bank's Stinger kit, turbo, ottomind, and torque converter. It has worked great the last 1300 miles. I took the truck up in the mountains today and on the way home the torque converter would not lock. When I stepped on it the shifter od light would flash. It was fine going slow, but at any od speeds it would cause the flash. Is there any way to test to see if it is the converter? Wife is upset, she thinks I bought a dud. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Agreed you need to go find a dealership or a diesel garage to hook up and have a scan done on it. Autozone and other places genereally don't have to scanners to check the Torque convertor or Tranny out(atleast my autozones)
Its part of buying a truck that is already modifed, you might want to look at replacing the Ottominder with a DP-Tuner. You also could have a nicked wire in the shifter colluem.
The code will stay in the computer's memory for about a month after the last time the light flashed. Turning the key off will turn the light off until the next time the PCM finds the problem.
sorry about brining this back up, I have been working out of town with no access to computer. Anyway, while I was gone my wife took the truck to a local shop and the code they say came up was an open torque lockup solenoid. The shop then took the valve body out and tested it. It tested fine. After reading the responses to my question, I was wondering if a nicked wire in the column would cause this? I don't think it needs a complete rebuild. The shop says that the fluid looked o.k., just a little dark (no metal though). Thank you for any Ideas on the problem.

I got into the file of paperwork that came with the truck and found that at one time the truck had a manual lockup switch. The switch is nowhere to be found now. If someone removed th switch could I have lost a connection to the lockup system?
Thank you

Removing a manual lockup switch incorrectly will cause an open circuit to the lockup solenoid and cause your problems. The wires in the steering column are in no way related.
Where would I start to search for incorrect removal? Where would someone tie into the wiring? I have looked under the dash and haven't seen anything suspect.
thank you
O.K. After doing some more looking on the net, I found the purple wire that controls lockup. Taking the advice from one of the web pages, I tapped into it, grounded it out with the truck in gear and foot on the brake. The converter locked and the truck died. Now what? The torque converter seems to work but will not lockup under normal conditions. What do you guys think would be the next step?
Thank you for any advice.
It sounds like whoever took the switch out didnt bother to put the wires back to the stock configuration, or they did and did a pis poor job of it. Try following the purple wire and look for any breaks or unusual connectors. It sounds like its not connected to the PCM. When the PCM calls for the T/C to lock and it senses it doesnt, the light will flash and a code is set
