What other year and model can I find a 10" x 2-1/2" brake back plate. I'm trying to replace one on a '66 Shelby GT350. I hear Bronco's, Econolines.... what years. Heading to the salvage yard this weekend.
The backing plates are R/L specific. Which side do you need?
The sleeve (B1AZ-3518-A) is nylon and why would Carpenter reproduce it...since it's still available from Ford?
The sleeve and C3DZ-3517-A bearing (also available from Ford) fit myriad FoMoCo Passenger Cars including 1965/66 Mustangs, and 1966/77 Bronco's.
Carpenter wants 10 bucks each for the sleeve, MSRP is $10.10 each. If you wanna pay MSRP, you can waltz over a few blocks to Don Sanderson Ford, buy 'em there...no shipping charges.
Well the ones i have on hand are Genuine Ford Licensed Products provided by Dennis carpenter in his handy leetle bag.......So someone is making them....
Dan Quale.....Lolz.......
I had lunch with his son a few months back at a pita Jungle in Tempe....Before he was elected. Good Kid and picked up only a few habits form pop.

FoMoCo is also selling "soon to be obsolete" parts to Carpenter.

While Dan Quayle was attending a spelling bee in NJ, he changed a students spelling of potato to p-o-t-a-t-o-e
Peeps today may not know what Prez Dan Quayle served under as VP (Bush Sr.), but many remember his spelling of potato!
Thanks for the coupler info. ND
I finally finished getting my column housing ready, sanded and repainted...
When I pulled out the steering shaft, it was worn pretty bad.
The guy in Amazonia Mo. is getting me a used shaft for $20 so all that I need is the bearings and sleeves. (Taters, tomaters) Dan Quayle, Boy, there'e a name you don't hear every day, and for good reason.
"Bush named Quayle head of the Council on Competitiveness and the first chairman of the National Space Council. As head of the NSC he called for greater efforts to protect Earth against the danger of potential asteroid impacts".[11] Wiki, (He was a space cadet and competitive speller.)
An Indiana Boy too. Don't mean to get "political" but I remember the those days, when a politician could say "Read my lips, No new taxes", and mean it!
The previous owner was pretty creative tho because when I got the truck I could tell that the coupler was shot but it still turned the truck okay, for what little movement it has made.
When getting ready for paint, I noticed that the under dash mount bolts had been loosened and readjusted several times to push the column housing down to meet the coupler.
The column bearings were like everything else automotive back then, 100,000 miles = time for a new truck, so if your truck has many miles on it, the shaft is probably eating away with every turn.
So is there anybody that has an exploded view of a 74 column I took the bottom of my column apart and it looks like there were bearings there at one time but the shift tube looks oblong like it's been rubbin there a while

There is one lower bearing, I already gave you this info.
See post #5. I listed the lower steel bearing, nylon bearing sleeve and the plastic lower bearing retainer, sources that have the obsolete retainer. I also listed descriptions and how the whole tamale fits together.
The lower bearing/sleeve is available from Ford. Also listed FYI, the upper bearing/sleeve.
Since you have a swapped in steering column from a 1974, these numbers were taken from the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.
FTE member Mikeo0o0o0 has this 1973/79 catalog on a CD, can scan and post pics. Look for Mike in the 1973/79 forum.
The pic you want to see will be found in: Illustration Section 35, Page 15 (1974/77 F100/250 2WD & F350).
I finally found one that's going to work at Jeffs bronco graveyard a little pricey but I'm goin to make my own based on that design thanks everybody for the help I never figured the steering column rebuild would be this difficult my 64 column was a piece of cake compared To this one parts wise 1 more question though my 64 originally had a white automatic shift **** will the 61-66 style **** fit on the later shift arm and does anybody know if anyone can make the shift pattern for the dual range cruise o matic that I could put in the newer column
