Steering Column Need Help Part Number?

Here is what I have. 1973 F100 Automatic Transmission, built in August 1972, Serial # R30529. Non Tilt Column. I need some help with the replacement bushings/bearings on the steering column. I think I have correct lower bushing and sleeve identified (C3DZ-3517A bushing, and B1AZ-3518A sleeve), but when I took the upper column flange apart the bearings just fell out. On the upper it looks like I have a spring, a metal sleeve similar to the plastic one on the bottom, and the outer race of the bearing and inner race of the bearing. The bearing has a plastic seal that goes around the outside of the bearing and then it fits down flush into Ford Column Flange D4TA-3511-DWA. I need a schematic of where the metal sleeve goes, and the replacement bearing for the column flange, and where I can find it. Help?

Look on Jeffs Bronco Graveyard site (they area sponsor of this site) or give them a call, they have the bearings in stock. As for the schematic, Mil1ion will be around later and he seems to have or has links to ALL of the drawings or schematic's. -Ed

I think I need JBG Part # 27060...but would like to have all the details and ford #'s, and schematic. I am also a little confused to how the metal spring and sleeve fit together, and if anyone has the number for the metal sleeve.

Thanks Dennis....I think I need the upper bearing 3511, don't know if that comes as part of the column flange normally as it and the column flange have the same part number. Then it looks like I need the upper 3518 sleeve...on the lower this confirms I need the 3517 bushing and 3518 sleeve. Only thing is my upper sleeve is metal on my column and the lower one plastic...wonder if they changed mid-stream or something. Also don't remember seeing the seal 3510 when I took mine apart, or the Star 380084 - S...what is that and what does the star beside it mean? Anybody else had any experience with this?

And these are the upper and lower sleeves. On the upper mine is the metal one and the lower is plastic.

After looking through the catalogs I am still a little confused as to the listings. For instance I can't find anywhere for a 1973 they call for the bearing I show above, all of them I see show that being from 72-77. I am thinking my column was pulled at one point in its life and some parts interchanged. Maybe these pics will help me nail down the exact part numbers and available replacement parts.

The flange, bearing and sleeve is different after 1973.

Your original flange has been replaced by one from a 1974. D4TA fits 1974/77. This flange uses >> D1AZ-3518-A SLEEVE & D4TZ-3517-A (or B) BEARING EDIT: replaced again >>> F23Z-3517-B

D1AZ-3518-A .. Sleeve

D4TZ-3517-A .. Bearing >> Replaced by D4TZ-3517-B See next line...

EDIT >> D4TZ-3517-B has been replaced.

The new number is F23Z-3517-B ....it is still available from Ford.

This is great...just as I suspected. I was sitting here telling a buddy of mine that I thought this column flange was off a 74 and up. What about the lower bushing, can you verify that I have right number for that? Also, got your private message NumberDummy on the upper metal sleeve, you are awesome, great work and way beyond your call of duty to call around and find one for me!! Is it necessary to go back with the metal sleeve on the top since my flange is a 74? I am thinking the metal sleeve was part of the 73 column only? Looks like in most of the aftermarket books they call for the plastic bushing, upper and lower column. Thanks again.

Still a little foggy on this NumberDummy. This is the column flange that I think I have. I have purchased the Bearing F23Z-3517-B and the black bushing sleeve D1AZ-3518-A that goes around the bearing . Take a look at the below MPC blow up. It is calling for two retainers (3C610 and 97476-S), one above the bearing and bearing sleeve and one below, and it does not call for an upper bearing sleeve (mine had the metal one pictured above) on the column. I think someone changed the column flange from the original 73 to this flange, did not put the retainers on, threw on the metal sleeve pictured above from the original 73. I think it was originally riding on the same type of bearing that is pictured for the lower column on the 73 as the metal sleeve looks worn out, probably why they replaced. I do not see any grooves in the flange for the e clip retainers to fit in to. The bearing and bushing fits tightly into the flange, so why is there a need for those upper and lower retainer clips? I am just trying to get this right. This is like solving Clue. It was Colonol Mustard with the 74 flange on the 73 column in the driveway!
