hey guys, quick question. ive had this rubber for the wing window for both sides since may. i have absolutly no idea how it goes on.... lol
so would i have to take the wing window out? and if so, how? and would i need to put a some adhesive on it? i have a little bit of that super yellow stuff left over from the door seals. any idears?
The frames need to be removed from the truck to do. They are an interferance fit and really tight and a boiatch to do. Hopefuly you purchased them from Dennis Carpenter.
i kinda figured they need to come out..... but how? and no lol i got them out of the LMCtruck catolog. and yes i do loose my patience very quick.... today was puttin on my last door seal and the dog down the road would....not...shut....the...hell....up.. ended up takin a long break till they brought the dam thing inside.
You will find that the LMC supplied seals will fit very poor. Carpenters seals also fit poor but are the best out there.
The division bar and vent needs to come out of the door. The vent window has a pivot and spring on the bottom that holds it in. You may be able to reach up in and remove it. once it is out the old seal can be removed and the new seal installed. They are a pita to do. I did a set using NOS ford seals last year and even with factory seals it was a bear to get done correctly.
I figure I will give you the long description so you can save the cussing for when you have the wing out.
First remove the window.
Then unless you have replacements, remove the wipers on the outside and inside of the window gap carefully so you can pull the front window track back once it is loose. I used a trim panel removal tool I got at Advance Auto and didn't beat mine up bad, and I was replacing them.
Then remove the 2 bolts inside the door, just above the access panel, and the 2 screws at the top of the front window track piece. There is one hidden screw under the wing window seal at the bottom of the wing where it meets the window track. If your wing seals are anything like mine they will break instead of pulling back when you go to get to this screw. You do not have to remove the track from the door, just pull it back enough to give you the ability to remove the wing.
There are 2 screws on the front edge of the door that go into the wing, and pull it back. There is a small section where the door will allow this piece to come out.
Once out remove the nut and spring at the bottom, and then the 2 screws holding the top wing hinge. I was able to use some penetrating oil, and gently tap the bolt out with a hammer.
Then spend the next 20 minutes cussing and sweating to get the seal in, making sure to get the hole for the bolt lined up. The hard part is getting the washers back in the slot where the bolt goes through.
Reassemble. 5 times realizing another thing you forgot each time. Seal the wing and leave it for a few days to push the seals down to where you can use the window without being outside the truck.
Purchased a set of vent window seals from D.C. and agree w/ Garbz2, they can be a pain in the backside. I found it difficult, if not impossible to get the vent window handle to seat all the way and eventually took an exacto knife and trimmed a little off. I don't believe you will find a better 'how to' explanation on the installation than what Broomfieldbum provided. If you would like to take a look at pic's there's an article on Dennis Carpenter's website, in their catalog on page 127.
Just for info purposes, noticed D.C. attends many of the auto shows throu out the U.S., if considering purchasing large items; headliner, fenders, etc. may want to check if they will be present, may cut down considerably on shipping cost. There are usually many other Ford part supplier's who cover these events so may want to check w/ the particular supplier. For those who are into Por's products, they are usually at majority of the shows. Although, in my case, believe they will be at the Goodguy's Rod and Custom show in Pleasantan, Ca., would have to travel 50 mi's 1 way however, I found the event well worth it. Anyhow, food for thought.
so im gonna have to take out the whole window? or just the wing? and i dont have any money to go out and buy a better set of rubber. ill have to make due with what i got lol takes awhile..... but i usually get it done

Been few yrs. since I replaced the vent, weatherstrip, and anti rattle on the 65 and seem to recall taking the window off the track and setting it in the bottom of the door well.
