I am aware that slaming the rear window on my 2000 Ex affects my interior and running board lights but I don't know why and there must be something that can be done back there that replaces the slamming method which only works sometimes. The lights are very fickle and sometimes they work well for a while, sometimes they stay on for 2 minutes, 10 minutes, or 20 minutes. I know the door switches affect the lights but right now I would like to do something about the rear hatch syndrome.
The switches in the sides of the rear hatch get really dirty. You can try spraying them with contact cleaner, or WD-40. The best way to get them working correctly is to remove the interior trim from around the glass so you can spray/clean the switches from the inside. The trim pieces pull off very easily.
The brutal force method of a dome light bypass switch comes to mind. I've not had any luck finding the elusive black/blue wire on a 2000 as many have posted.

I tried cleaning them and WD'ing them but I will try taking the trim off and do a thorough job. I wondering if the contacts get bent, worn, or out of shape.

Thanks Wallz but the only thing I am interested in right now is curing the window slamming problem which envolves something in the back and those links don't cover it. In fact I read all that before and never saw anything anywhere that resembles a cure for the slamming.
Ex; Have you tried adjusting the latches/catch on the glass door. After realigning my back glass on the top hinges I hade to adjust the latches on both sides.

My running board lights and interior come on at random . After opening and closing the back window they go off but they come back on minutes later where do I spray wd40
I. Priced one of the hinges has a piece broken off causing the glass to be loose could that cause the lights to come on randomly when the car is off? This is the type of hinge it has
Make sure that your hatch lifting struts are good.
I had a similar issue with the rear hatch on the Ex. Lifting struts for the hatch were too weak. New struts fixed the issue! Maybe not your issue, but the struts "support" the gate even when closed.
5 min fix and about $20. per strut in the auto stores. Or $20. for both struts online. I was surprised that replacing the struts fixed the issue. I think the actual "sensors" can last for over 20 years! Clean them or buy new ones.
The actual hatch needs to be in alignment as well.
