Hey all, for camping purposes, I'm trying to figure out how I can leave the rear hatch door open but keep the interior lights off without having to pull the fuse?
Any help would be appreciated....thanks, Graham.
There is also a thread (which I couldn't find myself searching)
about installing an interior light override.
Behind the front passenger kick panel is a wire which you splice
a simple switch into and can turn off all the lights with the doors open.
Somebody has the little switch mounted to the overhead console
with a little switch.
Maybe someone will post it.
Note to self: THEN I'll subscribe to that thread for next time.
I might as well also mention in this thread that im having hatch issues... either it wont unlock or the handle mechanism is roken... i cant get it open at all. Is this a common problem for the X? Any help appreciated
Ok so I'm lurking over here in Ex land...but don't you guys have an instrument panel dimmer switch in the Ex? What happens when you roll that dimmer all the way down past the resistance to the final click? Should kill all interior lights.
Just thinking out loud, so please forgive me if I am wrong.
Being unfamiliar with the Ex to a point, especially that switch, made me bring it up. (I can knowingly speak about some other Ex aspects) The other Fords I've owned have all functioned in the same manner by rolling the dimmer completely down.
I'll go back to my "home" now in the F150 forum.
Graham, there is no detent overide on the X. You have to put one in manually.
I did not see your yr X listed, but for 00,01 model yrs you wire one in from behind the fuse box. For other yrs you wire in behind the pass kick panel, behind where the fuel shut off switch is. You also get the running brd lights there. The overide will still allow you use of int lights with the individual switches.
I have pics in my album, or look for threads about "interior light delete". I'm mobile now so it difficult.
Thanks a lot Wallz! I have an '05 so it sounds like I can put one in behind the passenger kick plate. Hopefully I'll figure out which wires to splice and where to fix the switch.....Graham
Real easy to do, I just don't remember the wire colors and don't remember if in album or not. Groc shoppin now so I'll jump on pc later and link photos and threads of what I did.
In my '01 Windstar, the roller/dimmer has 2 detents at the bottom, the first just shuts off the over head lights when a door is ajar and allows the lights below the dash and on the door bottoms to illuminate, the second shuts all of completely. I would love to have this feature in my EX. I'll have to do some learning to see if it's possible.
