FWIW - Came out of Wally World the other day and, not thinking, tried to open the rear window to put some stuff in the back before I unlocked the other doors. It opened! WHOA! Tried it once again to verify I was not doing something stupid and it would not lock. So I have been thinking the rear hatch was locked and it was not. I tried the key and it would not lock or unlock it. Frozen lock. So I removed the handle and pulled evenly on the lower panel on the interior rear hatch. Came right off. Tried locking it with the FOB. The electric lock was moving slightly and making noise but it did not lock. I bent the bracket holding the electric lock in the locking mechanism so the electric lock would move freely. FOBed it a couple of times and it worked great. Got some Breakfree and sprayed the locking mechanism. Worked it with my hand and it freed right up. Bent the electric lock bracket back to engage the locking mechanism and worked great.
So the next time you lock your X's doors, just grab the rear window handle to see if it is locked. You may be surprised.
Mine won't lock with a key but my key won't unlock the driver door either so I don't know what the problem is. My key will lock the passenger door and start the truck.
I just fixed the actuator in the rear door of our X a couple nights ago. I noticed also this past week that the rear door wasn't locking. Key worked fine but the FOB wouldn't lock it. I pulled the actuator apart and removed the little part that goes bad in them. I soldered in a solid piece of wire and now it works like a charm....

Pretty common problem. With the back open to the elements the lock and mechanisms get gummed up on a regular basis. Something to add to the yearly or biyearly maint schedule.
I did the fix on my actuator and de-gummed it all but the proplem is; My key fits the ignition and right door only (not the tailgate and the driver door) so I can't figure out what the previous owner did.

Probably had a b & e thru the driver door, and into the ignition. Then cheaped out and only replaced those locks.
I have even a better one for ya. My pats only lets me program in 2 keys. I have bought several now, tried with my scanner, and even had ford try and nothing works.

ditto about not knowing the lift gate wasn't locking. I got mine (lock actuator) replaced last year under warrenty and a year later it doesn't work again (kinda). It works off and on now.
good to know about being able to work on it. my warranty ran out in Feb.

What's a b&e? The key doesn't work on the drivers door and the hatch and it looks like someone tried to break in at one time. (the square part is still broken on the door.)
Yesterday I found out the rear hatch window is locked shut. I got the rear cover (inside) off but any ideas how to get the power locks to unlock manually? Do the cables in the rear of the window retract when the window is unlocked, or are both my cables stretched out and need to be replaced. I just bought the truck and have not got a chance to buy a manual to really figure out the issue, my guess is dirt in the power lock mechanism. Any help would be appreciated.
Mine looks like it has about 7 years worth of dirt in the back cover.
