Yeabut, if I recall comments, the original was not shiny all over.
Seems like I read here on FTE some time ago that it was a combination of shiny/lo-gloss, but I would have to go back and find that thread to verify if what I recall is correct.
However, you never said what paint you used. Is it a trade secret?
"Allegedly" the surrounds for the various gauges were more matte with the engine turned look portion chrome. I've not yet seen an original that wasn't faded all to crap to confirm or deny.
No trade secret; it's 'chrome' paint. I'd have to look at the particular brand I'm using to tell you what it is but most any should be about the same. Works well if you're talented wielding a spray can; easier to pay me if you're not.
I tried chrome paint on one of my bezels. It looked pretty good until I got greedy & tried to put a coat of clear over it. Then the "chrome" turned to gray like it was before.
The surrounds painted the way they are supposed to be compared to the rest of the panel. You really wouldn't want chrome because then there would be reflections off the face of the gauge. The color is almost argent silver yet a little more grayish.
