I just made the same trip towing from Austin, TX to Canon City, CO, then CO Springs, and then finally Estes Park and back. Round trip it was 2700 miles (90% towing). I burned about three gallons (estimated) of DEF.
I just Towed 3050 miles. From Texas, Dallas area to Key West,Florida round trip. Towing approx 7,000lbs. I got 2750miles and my 800 mile warning came on. I filled up with DEF the day I left.
Just got my free lof and DEF refill. I am at 2900 miles and my info screen said it was below half. According to the invoice, it took 3 gallons to fill it.

Now that's interesting.
Did you fill the DEF tank full or stop filling when the truck thought it was full?
It's going to be hard to get a precise usage estimate. The DEF can go rather quickly with towing, high engine load, and high ambient temperature. Extended periods of high exhaust gas temps will use a lot of DEF fluid. The same load and route in the cooler months will result in less DEF being used than in the warm months. Too many variables.
Truck has approx 3K mi and was towing 14.5K fiver for the second time of the same trip (200 mi rt). Previously had not added any DEF since delievery. Checked info at start of trip "DEF OK". 50 mi into the trip "DEF less than half full". Since we were going to stop and eat anyway I decided to fill it up (it took almost 2.5 gal before it overflowed). I was not expecting that as it claimed less than 1/2 full. It appears to have been a little over 1/2 full.
Question: Approx how far could I have driven with the tow and still been ok? The reason I asked my DEF fills are free at my dealership (Preferred Customer status... LOL) and did not want to purchase it retail if I did not have to, but did not want to get in a loss of power situation.

I bought 3 2.5 gallon motorcraft containers and topped off my DEF before I left. Until nomore would go into tank. I even tried to keep putting more in and no more would go in. I was full, no question, before I left.
