Smile Long Summer Vacation Trip

Well, we just completed our summer vacation trip (we left June 28th and returned home yesterday, July 15th). We drove from Austin, Texas up to Cheyenne, WY, Grand Teton National Park, WY, to Yellowstone National Park, Cody, WY, Estes Park, CO and then back home to Austin.

All of using my 2011 F250 6.7 towing my 38 foot / 12K lbs 5th wheel camper. The total miles driven was 3,845 with about 90% of that towing the camper. I consumed 333 gallons of diesel fuel making the average trip mileage 11.5 miles per gallon. Most of my driving was between 65 and 70 MPH.

I am happy to report it was a smooth trip with no issues - the truck performed great. I did see some elevated oil temperatures while towing up some of the heavy inclines (the highest being 240 degrees) but these are normal under a heavy workload from what I can tell and what others have told me.

As far as DEF consumed, I believe I consumed about 5 gallons. It was full when I left and dropped below half a tank when I reached Yellowstone. I then added 2.5 gallons back to it. I checked it this morning and I am back below a half again.

I highly recommend visiting the Tetons and Yellowstone if you have not been. The Buffalo Bill Cody museum in Cody, WY is also a worth visiting if you are in that area.

Love the Jackson Hole and Yellowstone area. One of my favorits to visit and ride each summer. I'm usually towing my 4H GN horse trailer loaded with horses when I go.

Nothing like riding by a upset of buffalo in the Hayden Valley. Having them kick up the dust as the paw and bellow at ya.

Glad you had a good trip.

That's good news, gascan. Glad you had a good trip.
Last year, we took a 4400 mile trip and had zero issues.
Our economy appreciates your contribution.
We hope to visit TX someday.
The Tetons and Yellowstone are one of my favorites. A few years ago we took two of our grandkids to Yellowstone. After waiting for about an hour to see Old Faithful, my 5 year old grandson said, "did we drive all this way just to see that?" I told him, "Yep and since it was so far, we're going to watch it again." We had to keep him entertained with a hike around the geysers for 90 minutes until the next spout off. KIDS!!!

We did a nice trail ride in the Tetons. Absolutely beautiful country.
