Def overfill...question.

I am pulling My airstream to Texas approximately 2000 miles. So I filled up my DEF full till it over flowed...not the ford shut off def but the blue something or other. Well found out the temp will get to down to 24 degrees here tonight. What can I do to remove some def? Or am I worried too much. The last I thing i need is a problem.

I have the seic mod and can raise my idle to 1150rpms. Or just set my alarm several times at night and remote start?.

Or just leave for Texas tonight?

Thanks.

Shane

Im confused, at what temperature does DEF freeze? Id imagine its good to at least 0* F because its been around there a few weeks ago and i would have known if some of my friends had their DEF freeze in their 6.7s

Edit: just saw your post

Shane' s right, 12°. DEF systems in whatever vehicles that use them have heaters in various places to keep system operational.

That is correct. I picked up 2 jugs 2 weeks ago, it will freeze overnight if left out at 0 degrees. I've never had it freeze up in my truck though, and I've run it plenty in -20 F and colder!! No DEF freeze issues once it's in the truck. I'd be more concerned about DEF on the outside of the truck rather than it freezing for a bit in the fill neck.

It freezes in your DEF tank at 12°. But you have a heater that thaws it out and the emission system just does with out until the tank thaws out.

The filler neck on the hand, does not have a heater and can split if the fluid freezes inside the tube itself. Hence the warning to not overfill during cold temps.
