Hello Folks,
I am looking for a Programmer for my Truck, 2008, 6.4L, XL, 4x4, Longbed, Superduty Crewcab. I'm Not looking for Serious Power, This truck is a daily driver, i pull a 29' camp trailer, a 3 cord wood trailer, and live in the mountains of Oregon, I have a AFE Stage II air cleaner. Im not looking to do serious work but im just trying to get advice as to what upgrades, i need and which work best and which arent really needed. Any Help will work.
Opinions vary greatly on tuners, so do a quick search on this site and you can read all the info you'll ever need on which tuner to buy and why. I highly recommend Spartan but others have had luck with different systems. It will all come down to personal preference in what you're looking for (ie dpf on tunes/shift on the fly etc) and what your budget is. Other than tuning most of the mods are personal preference, anything that can be done to lower EGT's is a benefit to this motor as well as ditching the DPF (which it sounds like you're about to!). Best advice most will give is to be diligent with maintenance and work the truck like it was built for. Good Luck
I use an H&S XRT pro and am very satisfied with the power and mileage. It will DPF on or off. I have both the DPF and the DOC deleted. Best thing is all tunes are free

I use Spartan, also does dpf on/off (not shift on the fly). Also they have frequent updates which are free!
Im running a SCT Livewire witrh custom tunes from eric at Innovative Diesel, truck runs great, also running a afe stage II dry, DPF delete pipe and a spartan cold side pipe. I dont think you will be disappointed any way you go, but I have heard nothing but great things about Innovative on multiple forums and thats what helped me decide!
All things aside. i would go with a H&S tuner. beautiful screen and switch on the fly. i run one with a 300 horse tune and dynoed at 590 with Bullydog intake H&S tuner and DPF delete. H&S would be my first choice.
Your first real decision is whether or not you're going to delete the DPF. After you make that decision then you can start narrowing down exactly what you're looking for in a tuner, just avoid the canned garbage (Superchips, etc.)...
