2004 Expedition programmer/tuner? Towing...
I'm trying to find a chip/programmer for my mom's 2004 Expedition 5.4L. I haven't been successful yet as I'm only finding programmers for the new f150. Will programmers for the new f150 work, or is the 04 Expedition using the 'older' version of the 5.4L?
The main reason for the programmer is that she intends to purchase a 25ft travel travel (6-7k lbs loaded), and I'm looking for something to;
a) firm up the shifts and raise shift points,
b) increase performance
c) display engine oil temp, tranny temp, etc.
I found the Edge products Evolution that does this and more for the F150 but no idea if it works for the expedition, I sent an email.
Does anyone on here have a programmer on a new body style expedition, and does anyone tow regularly? Any suggests on upgrades for the Expedition? It is the 5.4L as mentioned with the 'optional' tow package with tow rating of 8650lbs. Any obvious (or not so obvious) weak points that should be addressed prior to towing a travel trailer? First thing to do is replace the crappy continentals with an LT tire.
Thanks for the help!
edit; Saw the superchips programmer after posting, but found this in the comments...
# Adjust Shift Points, F-150 & Mk LT only
# Enhance Shift Firmness, F-150 & Mk LT only
Not much good to me in that case, I think

Hmm, 17 views, no ideas eh?
Here is the response from Edge Products
So no ideas on a tuner for the 04 that will firm up shifts?

Unfortunately, we do not have programmer that will work with the 2004 Expedition, our EEF2400 is only designed for the F150 trucks. The Expedition uses a different PCM configuration, so the programming is different from F150 models. You may check with Superchips and see if they offer anything for your vehicle. If you have any other questions, let us know.

I replaced my 1998 XLT 4X4 with a 2004 EB 4x4 with HD tow package this January. I have the 5.4L engine with 3.73 axle ratio. I tow a 7,000# Rockwood TT (29' long). I just returned from a 2 week trip from Chicago to Glacier Park Montana hauling the trailer and 3 adults and our Dachsi. No mods to the truck yet but it performed perfectly. Towed up the mountains with no problems. Averaged 11.2 MPG until the way home when a 20 MPH headwind all through Wyoming and South Dakota cut it to 9.8 MPG. Gasoline prices along I-90 were around $2.80 per gallon. The trailer tows fine with the Expy as-is. Good luck and happy towing.
