6.7L powerstroke friendly programmers?

If I install a programmer/tuner on my 2011 powerstroke and remove It anytime I go in for service will they be able to detect that the truck has had a programmer on it? I've been told that they can tell on the new 6.7 even if you remove it when bringing it in for service. Does anyone know if that's true or not? I would like to get one but I don't want to void my trucks warranty. Also if I'm am able to program it without voiding my warranty which programmers do you recommend? Thanks

Hi Rambro,

Just looked this up from my diesel supplement:

horsepower and torque output such as whether or not
performance-enhancing powertrain components commonly referred

be erased and will stay in the system’s memory even if the
modification is removed. The information can be retrieved by Ford

To my knowledge the computers in these trucks are designed to detect aftermarket programming. Some tuners claim to be un-traceable, but whether that holds up or not has yet to be seen.

I wouldn't recommend tuning this engine. It has 400 HP!

Yeah that's true. Plus I don't want to take the risk with the warranty if it's not 100% untraceable. Thanks for the info

Tom is right on here. It has been posted here more than once that the computers in the new truck keep track of programming changes in memory ares that can not be put back to stock. There are also many sensors reporting all kinds of operating parameters to the truck computers. Deviations from known operating values are evaluated for potential tuner usage.

It has also been reported that the Ford IDS system automatically checks for these programming aberrations and flags the VIN. This effectively limits a dealers ability to hide tuners from the factory for their special customers.

It all comes down to how much you value your warranty. With a truck as electronically sophisticated as the 2011 Ford, factory programming updates are a certainty. There are 2 separate issues out there right now that will be addressed by dealership re-programming. IDS will be having opportunities to tattle on you. Do you feel lucky????

It's your truck...your money...your warranty

Regards

While I was at the toy store the other day a guy pulled up in a 2011 Black Lariat CC just like the one I ordered but he had the short bed. That is where the similarities ended.

He had been to the toy store a lot because he also had a 10" lift, traction and stabilizer bars, 22" wheels sporting 35" tires, fender flares, HID and LED everything, you name it. If JC Whitney sold it, he had stuck it on. I must say it looked pretty bad ***! He was clearly addicted.

He had also added an air raid, had ripped out the EGR and DEF system, and had put on 8" exhaust all the way through. He put one of the computer/programmers on it but I can't remember which one. He listed a bunch of mods I hadn't even heard of. I do remember his numbers though...550 HP and 1100 lb/ft torque. And about 14-16 MPG.

I said "doesn't that affect your warranty?"

He said "Screw the warranty...I can do wheelies!"

To each his own but that was a sharp looking and mean sounding truck!

Well put Rick!

I told a buddy of mine the other day, if you want your truck to perform like Big Rig buy a Big Rig. These trucks are awesome just the way they are - why risk it.

yeah given the trans problems we are having there is no way in the world I would put a tuner on my truck. I don't plan to ever do it, but I think your crazy to do it without more info on the effects to the truck, at this point we just don't know what those are.

Ya know that's what I like about this forum. Everyone in the Dodge Forum I go to (current rig is Dodge Diesel till I can get the 11 Ford) already has their 11 Cummins Bombed and modded. Smart people here!

10" lift, 35" tires on 22's? Good god, what a horrendous combo... I bet it looked like it was riding on nickels.

You forgot to mention how much more he was polluting the air that you and I have to breathe! It would be fine if this guy that ripped out his EGR and DEF systems was the only one who had to breathe the air he is polluting. The sad thing is that air pollution effects children even more dramatically. I don't get why some people feel the need to pollute.

that sounds all well and good but if you owned a 6.4 PSD paying for 50% more fuel and retaining the factory regen system doesn't make a lick of sense. those trucks in particular get nearly 50% better mileage without all that crap on them. I spend $500 a month in fuel for my truck, if I was driving a 6.4 with all the crap on it, I would be spending $750/mo. thats alot of money.

I personally don't see the point of removing the 6.7's system min is getting better mileage than my previous dodges and DEF is a non issue.

I agree with you on the 6.7. I don't know how the previous Navistar's were engineered. I just know people who had them had a lot of trouble.

Only reason id want a tuner is to turn off the DEF and delete the EGR and DPF. I just want a Turbo Back straight pipe
