I have a 2002 F350, I am having trouble with it cranking longer (12-15seconds) when its warm (first start of day it starts right up).
I took it to a local diesel shop and had them put it on the scanner, they told me its starting as soon as it sees the pressure and it should be fine. My question is what can I do to fix the issue ?
It has newer injectors, glow plugs, valve cover harness. It runs great once it starts just want to get rid of the long cranking.
Is your HPOP draining down when the engine is hot? Just a shot in the dark because it should also drain down after being parked and cooling down if the LPOP is worn enough to allow the oil to return to the pan. This should show up as both cold and hot hard starts.
The 2nd thing to check is the interior o-ring on the IPR. When this o-ring wears, it will allow the lower viscosity of hot oil to bypass the IPR and recirculate in the pump until the pressure builds and causes the o-ring to finally seal. This condition is usually associated with quick cold starts and hard hot starts.
On high mileage injectors, sticking poppets can display the same behavior when hot.
