I have a '01 f-250 with 106000 on it. When I go to start it when it has sat overnite or even during the day it seems like it cranks longer before it starts. When it is good and warmed up it starts a little better then. Any thoughts on what might cause this?
Oil low or the HPOP going south will cause the slow start when warm. First thing in the morning the GP's may be the problem. Is the starter spinning as fast as always? Mine was getting slowly by slowly harder to start and it was as simple as the starter dying. They die the slow death. Mine was getting worse and worse for a couple years, and man, when I replaced it it was like getting a brand new truck in 30 minutes.
I was thinking possibly glow plugs too. The starter seems to be spinning as fast as it always has. Although I could jerk it out and take it into have tested. The oil level is good. Is there any way to test the GP's or do I have to take it into a shop for that? If a guy has to replace them any idea what it costs?
Well its not too cold. This morning it was maybe 68 degrees. I am assuming GPR is the relay for the glow plugs? Somebody in town had mentioned a cam sensor?
The glow plug relay is the most common culprit when there's a glow plug system
problem. NAPA has the GPR 109 replacement relay for $25. Nice to have a spare.
If u have never replaced it it's probably due.
