Today was defiantly not a good day! On my way to work when I was on the highway the od light started to blink, I pulled off the highway shut the vehicle off turned it back on and the light was off and not blinking like normal and remained like that the rest of my way to work(15 mins or so). Coming home it was fine until about 10 mins from my house then it came back on flashing. I took my code reader out an no codes were thrown but im not sure if my reader could read trans codes I have to look up the specs on it. I already had this trans rebuilt at 100k because it shifted hard and the od light stayed on and then the check engine light also came on and then it went into default mode. As it turned out the overdrive gear snaped and caused all of the problems. I am really easy on all my vehicles and start out nice and easy and am defiantly not rough!! I only tow a boat about 2 twice a year for 10 miles tops and the boats only 2k. What do you gusy think it could be this time!! Thanks!!!
I searched the specs on my scanner and it doesn't say anything about transmission, its the Actron CP9575. It wasn't the cheapest one it was mid grade. Even their best scanner they dont say anything about the trans. Is it possible that it is not throwing any codes just the light? But every time I shut the vehicle off the light goes off and will not come back on until i drive it some distance. Thanks for the help!!
The transmission is fully electronic in the shift, engage, lockup ,etc. Assuming you have no mechanical failures, the problem is probably dirty oil, sticking solenoids, sticking valve spools. THe first thing i would consider is draining the oil, change the filter, clean the pan and wipe crud off the valve body and reinstall the pan and new oil. It was done at 100k miles, how many miles now ? If very few, talk to the rebuilder. If you have quite a few miles on teh rebuild, a good drain and refill with clean might help.
I have 170k on it now. The rebuilder is out of business now due to health reasons so thats not a option. I know when he rebuilt it I think he did a really good job because he rebuilt the tcase and changed the fluid in there,I didnt ask him to do that it was included in the cost of 2500ish. Then when he was done he detailed the inside of the car(like wiping the dash and stuff) plus washed it. So i think it really took pride in what he did and did a good job so im sure the vale body's were done. If you pull the pan down could you immediately see if the is a problems like a clogged valve or something? Thanks Again!
The recommendation for auto fluid change is 25k after new or rebuild then maintenance every 50k, you are way beyond both and the transmission deserves some care.... Philip
i vot for that. new plates and clutches will dump crap into the oil. need to get the "break in" stuff out. You will be suprised what is laying in the pan and deposits on the valve body.
Actually if i remember correctly now, im pretty sure it was changed after it was rebuilt because he said to bring it back after x amount of miles and he would check it out and make sure everything is working correctly. Im pretty sure he dropped the pan and did the fluid because I remember waiting a while for it.
