I have a 2000 Navigator with 130k on it. The OD light blinks when I reach highway speed (presumably at the time when it should be shifting into overdrive). Stop the truck, turn it off, restart it, and the light's out. Get back up to highway speed and it immediately starts blinking. I can drive it around town all day without a blink.
My research to this point seems to point to the solenoid pack. Hoping to not have to get the tranny rebuilt.
Do NOT blindly start swapping parts out, you'll usually just waste your time and money.
The FIRST thing to do is to pull the codes so you can see WHY the computer flashed the TCIL at you.
Yes, it *might* be the solenoid pack, but it might also be a valve body, torque converter, an internal clutch, or a leak in one of the internal hydraulic circuits.
Transmission codes aren't readable through OBDII port, and have to be diagnosed by someone who can read the transmission codes - is that correct? Thinking about paying the diagnostic fee at the dealership.
I just remembered that I have a previous post on this issue from several months ago. The Navigator has been sitting in the driveway without being driven for awhile. Getting back into it now.

No, that's not correct. You just need a decent scan tool, the cheap code readers won't read the manufacturer-specific codes.
