I was talking to Candie at classic haulers and she asked was the hood latch the same on a 50 as a 48/49. She said she needed one to use as a pattern to start reproduction. TOLD HER I WOULD ASK YALL [FTE]
Funny, I just mounted my hood two nights ago. Couldn't get it open again. The latch wouldn't release! I had to sneak a wrench in through the grill to take the nut off the spring loaded rod.

Tell her if they want to make money and help the hobby they should reproduce the door latch mechanisms. I'd take 4 and counting. That's something nobody else has made and everybody seems to be looking for.
At one time some one made the chromed hood latches, my local vendor had them in his 2005 catalog. I'm sure he got them from Carpenter or Drake but I don't think they make them any more:
Classic Haulers could save a lot of money if they tracked down the company who made them before and bought or leased their tooling.

Had that happen to me once. It was very difficult to get open. After I fiddle-farted around, I realized nothing really was out of adjustment other than the rubber stops on the hood had disintegrated (especially the square front one) and that allowed my hood pin to go too far down into the latch and it got caught. Lesson learned.
Dale ,Lmc used to carry the dummy handle and upright,I bought 1 a few years back, and i may be wrong but recently spotted it in two other catalouges, but i cant find thm at the moment. Ive not seen the latch it self anywhere but ill go thru my books , and catch up with the thread if i find anything. (JIMMY)
Mountaindoc, my situation was similar. The pin was adjusted about 1/2" too high so it caught on the plate instead of the latch. Once I discovered the problem it was a simple adjustment.
