Hood safety latch

Hood safety latch

'99 F-250. My hood release cable pops the hood but I can't move the safety latch handle. I grabbed it with a pair of vice grips to get more leverage and bent the lever. Still won't open the hood. Any suggestions?

Yeah, had the same problem when my son took my SD to college. Had to use vise grips to open the hood. Once I sprayed the latch with WD40 never had a problem again. Almost 2 years now. Good Luck!!

Try a pair of those long needle nose pliers or find something to push the latch from the side. The lever you push on is so long that its only gonna bend if its stuck that much.

Thanks for the help guys. I was able to use a piece of angle iron to move the top part of the latch and open it. Then I sprayed the whole mechanism with white grease. It works like new.
